Summer Camp
First and foremost, we at Inshore Outdoors, as well as all the campers and parents
of the campers, would like to wish Gavin Anzaldo luck in his battle with his cancer,
we will be thinking about Gavin and his family!
Our Inshore Outdoors Summer Day Camp finished up on July 15th and it appears that
all had a good time enjoying being out in the great outdoors. Our camp was condensed
this year as a result of my guide friend Dave Anzaldo having more important things
to take care of concerning his son Gavin, so he was not able to join us. Dave will
be back with us next summer, as we will build from this years camp in an effort to
continue to improve things year after year! More local, not quite as much travel
next year.
Fishing trips to Southport, Wrightsville Beach and Sherron Harris Lake were filled
with alot of fun, whether it was fishing , boating and of course swimming! A few
of our trips were VERY hot / humid, but nothing a nice cool swim couldn't quench!
As fishing goes, we did not catch a bunch of fish..but one thing is for sure, we
wouldn't have caught ANY fish sitting at home. The highlight for one of the groups
was a 40+ fish day on Sherron Harris Lake with light tackle, but on a very windy
day two days later with a different group, the same area gave up only two fish (both
to Charles Moorman by the way). As the second group had a slow day fishing in what
was two days earlier, a very good spot, they made up for in a pretty impressive
diving / flipping competition off the front of the boat with Wes Naylor taking un-official
top honors with a very nice tight flip (see pic). It was a thing of beauty to see
how young men find ways to entertain themselves in a boat on a lake when the fishing
is slow and maybe the reason for an outdoors camp to begin with. I really dont think
they would have enjoyed 100 fish any more than the swimming / messing around.
I think all of the parents would have been very proud of their young men if they
had been a fly on the wall during the week. All of these young men showed alot of
respect for the other campers as well as me and the outdoors in general. As parents
we all wonder how our children act when out of our sight, well these parents should
be very proud. These boys were a delight to spend time on the water with and were
all very good fishermen!
Thanks to all involved and enjoy the pics!
Take Care-Tom
